New life is being breathed into the indoor swimming pool in Ascholding.
It will serve as a temporary art studio.
This was decided by the Dietramszell local council.
Dietramszell / Ascholding - As late as 2020, young and old were splashing around in the Ascholding swimming pool. Since it was closed in 2021, the property has been rotting away and has repeatedly made headlines about what will become of it.
Most recently, the municipality proposed the hall for the accommodation of asylum seekers to the district office. How this will proceed is currently unclear (we report).
New life for Ascholding indoor swimming pool: Dietramszell local council votes for temporary use as an art studio
In the meantime, life should now return to the abandoned building.
Katja Bonnländer, art therapist and artist from Egling, wants to transform the indoor swimming pool into an artificial pool in the future.
Specifically: Set up an art studio there in which she realizes projects with kindergartens, students, clubs and local artists.
Ludwig Gröbmaier (CSU), spokesman for the Baukultur Working Group (AG), presented the idea of the concept to the councilors at the local council meeting.
The artist had previously presented her plans at a working meeting of the working group in collaboration with the Dietramszeller Cultural Association.
The idea is for the artist to offer culture to the community for free use.
“In this way we could offer cultural life to the community,” Gröbmaier favored the idea and “I find the vacancy sad” and it also costs money.
For the cooperation, the community would receive around 2,500 euros for repairing the toilets and around 80 euros in electricity costs.
Teresa Wimmer (Greens) advocated that in the context of art education for kindergartens and school classes “we can offer something that does not exist in other communities”.
Dietramszell: Temporary use of the Ascholding indoor swimming pool as an art studio receives full approval from the local council
The project idea also received a positive response from the other councils.
By 18 to two, they agreed to temporary use for one year, with two exceptions: On the one hand, the administration should clarify what building law requirements are involved and, on the other hand, it must be taken into account that “people come before culture”.

As soon as the district office actually requests the indoor swimming pool for asylum accommodation, the focus of use must be on this.
“We cannot register the indoor swimming pool as refugee accommodation and then move it back again,” explained Mayor Josef Hauser (FW).
Because human life would come before culture.
Currently, the main focus for incoming asylum seekers is on the Eco Academy in Linden.
The district office and the owner are in the final stages regarding changes of use and contractual matters.
Ascholding indoor swimming pool in Dietramszell: No allocation of refugees until the rooms are ready
District Administrator Josef Niedermaier assured Hauser in writing that no refugees would be assigned as long as the rooms there were not ready for occupancy.
And first they want to use this accommodation, but Ascholding is still not unreasonable and as long as a cultural bath is conceivable.
