The Munich Security Conference 2024 has a strong impact on traffic in the Bavarian capital.

Munich – The security conference is taking place in Munich for the 60th time this weekend (February 16th, 17th, 18th).
The political situation: Tense for years.
This year too, the global crises will dominate the conversations in the back rooms and stages of the Bayerischer Hof.
This year the guest list is again prominent: In addition to Ukrainian President Zelensky, the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, is expected.
Your Foreign Minister Antony Blinken, French President Macron and, of course, the top guard of German politics will also meet in Munich.
Of course, the major event does not remain without consequences for the people of Munich.
Significant traffic disruptions must be taken into account in weekend planning until Sunday evening.
Security Conference 2024 in Munich: Road closures and traffic disruptions at the weekend
Two larger areas in the city center will be cordoned off for this year's security conference.
The two event locations affected are the Bayerischer Hof and, for the first time this year, the Hotel Rosewood on Kardinal-Faulhaber-Straße.
There will also be a no-parking zone from Friday, February 16th, 6 a.m. to Sunday, February 18th, 3 p.m.
In both security areas, according to the city of Munich, visual inspections of luggage such as bags, backpacks, containers, etc. must be tolerated by the police upon request.
As in 2023, it will not be possible to park e-scooters in the security areas or to drive through the areas with e-scooters.
Because of the security conference, parts of Munich city center are affected by closures.

Security Conference 2024 in Munich: These effects apply to local public transport
The restrictions also have an impact on local public transport.
This is how the city informs: From Friday, February 16th, around 6 a.m., to Sunday, February 18th, around 4:30 p.m., the Karlsplatz (Stachus) – Maxmonument section will be closed.
The stops Lenbachplatz, Marienplatz (Theatinerstraße), Nationaltheater and Kammerspiele are therefore not served.
This results in the following changes:
Tram 19 and Night Tram N19 will be rerouted between Hauptbahnhof Süd and Maxmonument via Sendlinger Tor and Isartor on the route of Tram 16.
The main station – Kammerspiele section is no longer available.
Tram 21 is interrupted and only runs in the sections Westfriedhof - Karlsplatz (Stachus) and St.-Veit-Straße - Max-Weber-Platz.
The Lenbachplatz – Maximilianeum stops are no longer available.
At Karlsplatz (Stachus) the tram leaves in the direction of Westfriedhof at the stop on line 20 (position 5).
Between Karlsplatz (Stachus) and Max-Weber-Platz, passengers can switch to the U4 and U5.
Other tram and bus lines may also be affected by diversions and interruptions if additional closures become necessary (e.g. due to the arrival of participants or demonstrations).

The area around the event locations in the city center is particularly affected, but also transport hubs throughout the state capital.

However, the major event also has an impact outside of the city center.
As the police explained to our editorial team, recurring obstructions on the streets must be expected until Sunday evening.
Traffic in the north of the city in particular will have to expect disruptions.
But traffic junctions such as the Mittlerer Ring or motorway exits and entrances would also not be accessible during this period without any disruption.
However, for security reasons, no precise information could be provided in this case in order to protect the participants in the security conference.
