Ukrainian President Zelensky is in Berlin.
He signs a security agreement with Chancellor Scholz.
Berlin - Germany and Ukraine have agreed on a bilateral security agreement.
It was signed on Friday in Berlin by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and President Volodymyr Zelenskyj.
This is “a historic step,” said Scholz on X, formerly Twitter.
Germany will “continue to support Ukraine against the Russian war of aggression.”

The agreement is intended to bridge the time until Ukraine becomes a member of NATO.
There is currently no sign of joining the military alliance for the country attacked by Russia.
A similar agreement with France is scheduled to be concluded in the evening.
Great Britain had already concluded a first bilateral security agreement with Ukraine.
Zelenskyj arrived in Berlin in the morning.
He was received by Scholz in the Chancellery.
A conversation with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is also planned.
Zelensky is expected to appear at the Munich Security Conference this Saturday.
Ukraine has been fending off a Russian invasion for almost two years.
