The smart home market is growing in Italy: in 2023 it reached 810 million euros and +5% compared to the previous year.

However, per capita spending is slowing down due to the reduction of incentives, and sales of devices linked to energy saving are especially affected.

These are some data from the research on the Smart Home of the Internet of Things Observatory of the School of Management of the Polytechnic of Milan which underlines how "with artificial intelligence we save energy and identify faults in the home".

According to the research, security solutions (24%), appliances (19%), heating and air conditioning (18%) and smart speakers (16%) lead the smart home market.

"The number of companies offering innovative services, integrating artificial intelligence algorithms, is growing", underlines the director of the Observatory Giulio Salvadori.

For example, in security devices there is "a strong growth in offers capable of integrating AI to detect potential security breaches and protect the home".

While, offers based on the use of artificial intelligence algorithms have been launched in smart heating and air conditioning systems.

For example, washing machines that independently dose the correct amount of detergent depending on the load or household appliances that recognize a fault and send information for repairs.

Despite the reduction in state incentives, solutions closest to energy saving such as boilers, heat pumps, thermostats, thermostatic valves and connected air conditioners retain significant weight.

Finally, 59% of consumers declare that they own at least one smart object in their home, 70% are very satisfied but there are still few who have actually connected their devices (38%).

63% of those who have activated smart features use them frequently.
