How important is safety at Lake Riem to the city?
The district committee (BA) Trudering-Riem asks this question.
Although the grievances have been pointed out for some time, this is “continuously ignored by the decision-makers,” according to the BA.
The water watch station is currently located in a location from which it cannot see the entire lake.
In addition, there are long routes to the jetty, insufficient first aid and lounge rooms, and hardly any space for equipment and materials.
The BA members complain that the decision-makers in the city apparently do not really understand how dangerous the lake is due to its steeply sloping bottom edge compared to other lakes.
SPD spokeswoman Eva Blomberg has heard that there were recently discussions with the treasury, city council groups and the affected departments in which the new building for the water rescue service in Riem fell through.
That is why the BA is now urgently calling for “the concerns of the water rescue service at Lake Riemer not to be put off any further”.
The building department and the city treasury confirm the BA statement, but give the BA a certain share of the blame.
The Riemer See water rescue service had expressed a desire to the building department to optimize its existing accommodation, but the BA 15 had submitted various other applications to supplement the sports and leisure activities in Riemer Park, including measures in the area of the seawall and the kiosk building.
“Since these measures require a holistic view and planning with regard to economic processing, function and design by the copyright holder of the Riem Park concept, they must be bundled and planned in a project.”
Although the building department actually wanted to register it for the budget, “the project could not be prioritized in the preliminary vote”.
This year we will try again to obtain an order and the necessary funds to finally be able to start in Riem.
The helpers would like to have a lounge area in front of the station as a short-term measure.

Another measure could improve the operational capability of the BRK group relatively quickly.
Because at the water rescue service it is important that the lifeguards spend entire days at the lake.
For this, it would be important to have your own small outdoor lounge area, ideally directly in front of the rescue station and with stairs into the water.
“We are currently sitting around in an old container building,” reports Michael Welzel from the district water rescue service.
But having to fight your way through the bathers when the alarm goes off would be counterproductive.
Such a separate outdoor area could also increase the motivation for volunteers to spend time at the lake with their families outside of their work schedule and to help out if necessary, explains Welzel.
At the moment, Riem is at an extreme disadvantage when it comes to the attractiveness of volunteer work.
In principle, however, it is absolutely necessary to build a sensible new station at a different location.
The stations at Lerchenauer and Fasaneriesee are role models for this.
As it is now, “the water rescue service in Riem will no longer function”.
