The mayor of Arthezé, a small town located near La Flèche, in the south of Sarthe, is still in shock.
This Wednesday, February 14, Sylvain Poirrier, 49, discovered in the city hall mail an anonymous handwritten letter full of threats...
“The author attacked the municipal council as a whole, and me specifically, by accusing me of my membership in the French Communist Party.
He assured me that I didn't have
much longer
.
The text was accompanied by a bullet, he explains.
All this on Valentine's Day.
It didn't make me laugh.

“I thought of my wife and my three children”
Sylvain Poirrier, elected since 2020, thought about it before filing a complaint.
He filed it this Friday, February 15, thinking of “his wife and his three children”, after discussion with the prefect, who invited him “not to let it pass”.
“In a town of 355 inhabitants, where everyone knows each other, where we work to live together without taking political labels into account, such a letter is not trivial,” he insists.
I'm not at peace.

The elected official wonders what the motive for these threats could be.
“On February 1, with the PCF Departmental Federation, I organized a public meeting on the state of our health system,” he explains.
The leaflet distributed to announce it was attached to the letter: it was crossed out with a line…” The gendarmes carried out the usual surveys and analyses.
All my support for Mayor Sylvain Poirrier.
Receiving a threatening letter, with a bullet inside, for your communist commitment is unacceptable!
No elected official should be threatened for their ideas.
All the messages of support warmed his heart.https://t.co/CRUmLoSjXx

Since these threats, Sylvain Poirrier has received, among others, the support of Fabien Roussel, national secretary of the PCF, the senator of Sarthe, Thierry Cozic (PS), the deputy of the constituency, Élise Leboucher (Nupes), and the associations of elected officials.
