Impossible to miss, as they abound everywhere in major French cities.
Nail salons - these small beauty institutes, independent or linked to a large group in the aesthetics world which offer manicures and pedicures on a mass scale - are becoming more and more numerous in France, to the point of changing the layout of certain streets.
In Paris alone, their number has exploded in recent years, going from 278 in 2014, to 351 in 2017, 470 in 2020 and up to 565 in 2023, according to figures from a study recently published by the City, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Parisian Urban Planning Workshop (Apur).
That is an annual increase of 8.4%, reaching 20% over the last three years and more than 70% since 2018. An explosion that goes hand in hand with that of so-called
“emerging”
businesses ,
“reflecting new aspirations and developments of society"
, according to the study, but which does not fail to worry public authorities.
