1.78 million is the number of visitors who visited the grounds of the Château de Fontainebleau, including the gardens, in 2023. This is 15% more than in 2022 and 5% more than in 2019 for this historic monument classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1981. Marie-Christine Labourdette, president since 2021 of the public establishment of the Château de Fontainebleau created in 2009, is delighted with this success, and notes a certain “evolution cultural practices, during and after the Covid-19 pandemic period.
If the historic gardens, free and with open access, welcomed 1.2 million tourists, the castle alone, to which access is paid, welcomed 560,000 visits in one year, or 28% more than in 2011 when it recorded 427,442 entries.
It is also the “Grandeur Nature” exhibition which attracted the most visitors (61,000), among the rich program for this year 2023.
