The Gannat gendarmerie, in Allier, has its new mascots!
On October 3, two representatives of the constabulary were on patrol.
“At a bend in the road, on the edge of a wood, we heard meowing in a ditch, we stopped and we discovered four baby cats in poor condition.
They must have been two or three days old, and they were about to die, hornets were starting to attack them,” Roman explains.
The gendarmes decide to bring them back to the brigade.
“Safeguarding animal life is part of our missions.
A horse, a dog, a cow, a cat in danger, we must act,” says Loris.
Except that a police station cannot be transformed into an animal shelter.
As in most barracks, the 15 officials have apartments on site.
“We had to feed them day and night with formula.”
“It’s easier to organize guard shifts, because we had to feed them day and night every four hours with formula,” says Loris, who called on his colleagues and his partner, after having took advice from the local veterinarian.
Finally, Loris and her friend Clémence kept two of the kittens, who became the brigade's mascots, and the accomplices of Pixel, their Golden retriever dog.
The couple even created an Instagram account.

The other two little ones, Smoke and Greta, found refuge with relatives in Thiers and Grenoble.
“We are proud to have saved them.
Keeping the siblings together during the first months helped to compensate for the absence of their mother,” underlines the young man.
Drawing on this experience, the Gannat gendarmerie invites animal owners to sterilize them.
