Agostina Hein
, 15 years old, confirmed her status as the great hope of
Argentine swimming
after finishing her performance in the
800 freestyle
final at the Doha World Championships in fifth place this Saturday.
Hein, who clocked a time of 8m29s19, her personal best, was just under seven seconds -6s53- away from the bronze medal, which went to New Zealander Erika Fairweather with a time of 8m22s26.
The Argentine swimmer, bronze last year in this same distance in the Junior World Championships held in the Israeli city of Netanya, was further away from the winner of the event, the Italian Simona Quadarella, who won the gold with a time of 8m17s44.
Completing the podium was the German Isabel Gose, who achieved the silver medal with a time of 8m17s53, just nine hundredths faster than the transalpine swimmer, who signed the double in the long-distance events by winning both the 800 and the 1,500 freestyle.
Agostina Hein, who was eighth in these World Championships in the 400 freestyle final, will close her participation in the Qatari capital this Sunday with her performance in the 400 medley series.
