Lenggries is in the middle of renovating the town center.

Construction phase one on Isarstrasse is largely completed, construction phase two will begin at Easter.

Lenggries – About half is done, now the second part is coming up.

The community of Lenggries is in the middle of the town center renovation.

Last year, Isarstrasse was primarily redesigned, including some junctions.

The asphalt surface layer is still missing there.

In the coming days, the second construction phase will be awarded, which primarily includes Karl-Pfund-Weg to Marktstrasse and Flössergasse.

1.4 million euros were invested in the first construction phase

The first construction phase cost around 1.4 million euros.

Almost half of the money was spent largely unnoticed by citizens.

As part of the redesign of the public transport areas, the water pipes and sewer were also renovated - including the connections to Kirchplatz and Isarplatz.

“240 meters of canal and 350 meters of water pipes have been completely replaced,” says Karl Ertl, head of the Technical Building Authority.

And because the whole thing was of course done during ongoing operations, “it had to be dug up several times in some places,” adds Mayor Stefan Klaffenbacher.

Overall, everything took a little longer than planned.

But now we are on the home stretch in construction phase one.

You can already see the paved parking spaces on the right side of Isarstrasse.

The sidewalk is on the other side.

Sawn paving stones are used to guarantee accessibility.

Paved parking areas and sawn paving for the sidewalk

Coming from the church square, you can already see the newly paved parking areas on the right side of Isarstrasse.

Cars will only be parked there in the future.

“There are more official parking spaces than before,” says Klaffenbacher.

“Recently, a lot of people were just standing on the street.” That should end with the redesign.

“Clean traffic routing” is also the goal of the town center renovation.

The new, continuous footpath is being built on the other side of the road.

This will also be paved - with sawn stones to ensure accessibility.

In some places, tactile elements ensure that even people with visual impairments can find their way around.

All of this was coordinated with the district's representative for the disabled, says Ertl.

The width of the sidewalk is chosen so that “you can also get through with a stroller,” says Ertl.

This was not the case before the redesign.

In some places there was no sidewalk at all, in others it was so narrow that you had to move onto the road.

The asphalt layer is still missing on the road

The asphalt surface layer is then applied to the road in the spring.

The program also includes planting some solitary trees in certain places.

Incidentally, the subsoil is designed in such a way that not all surface water flows directly into the canal.

Some is saved to ensure the trees receive adequate watering.

The mayor says they are also still thinking about setting up benches.

The Karl-Pfund-Weg is also about reorganizing parking areas, clearer structuring of traffic areas and creating a usable sidewalk.

In this area too, work is taking place underground - although to a lesser extent than in construction phase one.

There will definitely be another information event for residents beforehand, says Ertl.

The company's directly responsible contacts on site would also be introduced, as problems can usually be solved more quickly in this direct way.

Residents are supported by the community with access

Speaking of residents.

They were able to follow the community's redesign measures to renew their access and driveway areas.

50 percent of the costs are borne by the municipality, which in turn recovers 80 percent of the eligible costs of the overall measure through urban development funding.

However, this does not include expenses for water and sewerage.

If everything goes smoothly, construction phase two will probably begin after Easter.

The costs there are likely to be around 1.5 million euros.

Klaffenbacher: “The goal is to get everything done this year.”

One of the next larger urban development projects in the medium term is likely to be the redesign of Marktstrasse and Kirchplatz.

“But this requires intensive coordination,” says the town hall boss – also because large areas in this area are not owned by the municipality.
