- According to the municipality's statutes on "honoring deserving individuals" from 1978, honorary citizenship represents the "highest level of honor" for Gauting residents who have made a special contribution to their hometown.

18 community residents have received them so far.

Now a 19th citizen is added: At the meeting on February 8th, the local council decided to award former mayor Brigitte Servatius (79) this ideal honorary title, which does not come with any privileges.

The SPD woman and native of Vienna was mayor of the municipality for more than a decade.

The presentation, with which the honorary citizenship becomes effective, will take place on July 12th in the Bosco - together with the presentation of the Klinge Prize, the Gautinger Culture Prize.

“With the award, the local council is taking into account Brigitte Servatius’ long-standing commitment to Gauting, initially as second mayor of the community and from 2002 to 2014,” says a statement from the town hall.

“In addition to her duties as head of the town hall, she worked in many other associations for the community of Gauting and the entire Starnberg district.

Under her leadership, among other things, the renovation of the Gautinger Bosco, the new construction of the secondary school, the founding of the Würmtal State Secondary School Special Purpose Association and the construction of the bypass road were successfully implemented." The conclusion: "Former Mayor Servatius has played a key role in shaping the current face of the Gauting community and deservedly receives honorary citizenship.”

Ekkehard Knobloch (non-party) is now the second living Gautinger with “honorary citizenship”.

“My time as second mayor under Dr.

I remember Knobloch fondly.” As a communications talent, the ex-town hall boss also initiated the Oberbrunn and Unterbrunn bypasses in negotiations with farmers.

Most recently she worked in refugee aid.

“I just really enjoy living in Gauting.”

Heinz Rauhoff receives the Citizens' Medal 2024

In addition to honorary citizenship, there is also the so-called citizen medal.

This year the medal with a diameter of six centimeters goes to the former community bus driver and current school route helper Heinz Rauhoff.

According to the municipality, together with the award winner, there are 20 living citizens' medal winners in Gauting.

According to the statutes, the number is limited to 25.

According to the press release, Rauhoff is being honored with the Citizens Medal for his “decades of voluntary work in the community.”

The award winner showed “extraordinary perseverance” as a community bus driver and school helper.

For over 20 years, he worked as a community bus driver for fellow citizens with limited mobility.

“Even after he resigned from this voluntary position in 2023, the now 82-year-old gets up early every morning to ensure the path of young people from Gauting as a school helper.

Rauhoff supports young and old alike in all voluntary work and is highly valued for his open and friendly nature." The honoree is pleased about the award: "I think it's great that the community honors volunteer work." He will be given to the community as a Helpers on the way to school will be retained: “I’m very, very happy to continue as long as I can.”
