Alexei Navalny was missing for several weeks.

Now, according to Russian media, he has died.

Most recently, Putin's critic lived in the IK-3 prison camp.

That is known.

Moscow – Where is Alexei Navalny?

This question not only occupied the now deceased Kremlin opponent's team until his death, but also several states demanded clarification from Russia in the case - the concerns in Navalny's case were great.

After more than two weeks, there was a sign of life on Christmas Day from Vladimir Putin's well-known critic.

Navalny was transferred to the IK-3 penal camp in Charp in northern Russia in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Navalny's spokeswoman Kira Yarmysch said on Monday on the X news service (formerly Twitter).

But what is known about Navalny's new whereabouts?

IK-3 penal camp in Russia: Navalny's location is 2,000 kilometers from Moscow

The IK-3 penal camp in Charp, where Kremlin opponent Alexei Navalny is said to have stayed, is more than 2,000 kilometers from Moscow.

The facility is also known as the “Arctic Wolf” and is considered one of the northernmost and most remote colonies in Russia.

For Alexei Nalvalny, prison conditions may have deteriorated again.

The conditions in the IK-3 penal camp are considered brutal.

Contact with the outside world is probably difficult; letters should not be delivered to the facility.

Added to this are challenging weather conditions – the area is in the permafrost region.

The settlement of Charp, near which the IK-3 penal camp is located, is a small settlement with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants.

Located in the polar region, Navalny's location is hardly suitable for agriculture, but is known for its raw material mining.

The penal institution is used by Russia, among other things, to enforce life sentences.

Navalny disappeared for weeks: Putin opponents transferred to Polarwolf prison camp

According to his team, the fact that Alexei Navalny was taken to a remote prison camp is due to the upcoming presidential elections in Russia.

Navalny's trial had previously been put on hold.

It was clear from the start that Moscow's power apparatus wanted to isolate Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin's opponent before the election on March 17, according to an employee.

Navalny, who was sentenced to 19 years in prison for alleged extremism, among other things, repeatedly files lawsuits against the prison system for violating his rights.

He uses the court appearances not least to scathingly criticize Putin's authoritarian system.

Until a few weeks ago, Putin critic Navalny was housed in the IK-6 prison camp around 260 kilometers east of Moscow.

It is assumed that this proximity to the Kremlin and the public became too risky for Putin.

Former Gulag is Navalny's new location: Kremlin critic is in penal camp IK-3

According to information from several media outlets, Navalny's new location, the IK-3 prison camp, is a former Soviet Union gulag.

Russian human rights activist Igor Kalyapin told The

Moscow Times

that Navalny's transfer was a detention in maximum isolation.

This is due, among other things, to the location: the prison camp is located on the Siberian tundra and the Polarural mountain range.

As

reports, the prisoners are expected to serve their sentences in precarious living conditions.

A former inmate kept getting sick because his broken clothes weren't replaced.

In addition, his cell had neither warm water nor windows.

In addition, abuse and torture are said to occur again and again in the IK-3 facility.

However, the extent to which these reports are correct cannot be independently verified.
