It is around this slogan that several thousand people gathered around the world, Friday February 17, to pay tribute to Alexeï Navalny and denounce the cruelty of the Russian president.

The number one opponent of the Kremlin died suddenly on Friday, at the age of 47, behind the bars of his cell, located in the “special regime” colony IK-3, established in the autonomous district of Yamalo-Nenets, sixty kilometers to the beyond the Arctic Circle.

In Russia, more than a hundred people were arrested during several rallies, notably in Saint Petersburg.

In the United States, where President Joe Biden said he was

“scandalized”

by the death of the opponent while designating the master of the Kremlin as

“responsible”

, a memorial in honor of Alexeï Navalny was erected in near the Russian embassy in Washington.

was notably placed on the ground on an improvised altar strewn with flowers.

A rally also took place in front of the Russian consulate in New York.

Rallies in Paris, Belgrade, London

Citizens also gathered in front of the Russian embassies in Warsaw (Poland) - where an imposing portrait of Alexeï Navalny was brandished -, Yerevan (Armenia), Belgrade (Serbia), London (United Kingdom) and even in Paris.

In Vilnius (Lithuania) and Brussels (Belgium), memorials have been improvised in the streets.

Similar gatherings also took place in Munich (Germany), Lisbon (Portugal), Barcelona (Spain) and Oslo (Norway).

Incarcerated since January 2021, Alexeï Navalny was serving sentences totaling nearly thirty years of imprisonment: 9 years in a fraud case, to which were then added 19 years for “extremism”.
