Wearing masks with Homo Sapiens skulls, a group of Extinction Rebellion activists occupied the hall of the Natural Sciences Museum of Turin this morning.
Two of them were holding a banner reading "Eco-climate crisis: let's get a move on before only bones remain of us".
At their feet were some signs which, inspired by those accompanying the embalmed bodies of hundreds of animals contained in the same room, bore the caption: "Homo sapiens: extinct. Ubiquitous hominid species that lived on Earth for approximately 200,000 years. Known for his ingenuity and creativity, invented the art and culture that he loved to preserve in buildings called museums. Extinct due to the eco-climatic collapse due to the use of fossil fuels. The forms of organization of his society, called governments, did not implement sufficient countermeasures to stop the destruction of the species' habitat".

"In this historical moment, when the future of the Earth is so linked to the political decisions of our governments, we cannot talk about science without engaging in politics. The Museum, as a scientific and research institution, should remind governments of the urgency of taking decisions to guarantee life on Earth", explained the activists.
