Nine acts are fighting for a ticket to the Eurovision Song Contest at the German ESC preliminary round.

An expert sees exactly one ray of hope, but it is a great opportunity.

Munich / Vienna – A sense of achievement would be nice again!

Four times in a row, Germany took one of the bottom two places in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Things can actually only get better.

ESC preliminary decision: Expert sees Marie Reim as THE opportunity for Germany

But which of them really has a chance of achieving something for Germany?

The three betting providers listed on

eurovisionworld.com

see Ryk (34) as the most likely winner in the preliminary round.

But ESC expert Mario Hanousek has other thoughts.

The Austrian has been blogging about the Eurovision Song Contest for years on his own portal, on X (formerly Twitter) and on Instagram and has been providing reporting and assessments for our editorial team for years.

The expert finds clear words.

“For Germany there is only one chance to stand out at the ESC this year – and that is Schlager!” said Hanousek.

It's clear who he means by this: “Marie Reims' 'Naive' is a German cliché hit like it is in the book and yet something that hasn't been seen internationally on the Eurovision stage for years.

So to stand out and maybe finally leave last place behind you, this would be THE chance!”

ESC expert otherwise skeptical: “A lot of generic pop” at the German preliminary round

And what about the other eight acts in the preliminary round?

Hanousek sees or hears a lot of drought.

“Otherwise there is a lot of generic pop in the 'German finale',” says Hanousek.

“There are a lot of things – despite excellent voices – that don’t stay in your ears for long or would completely disappear in Malmö between the other contributions.” So there’s a risk of last place again if Marie Reim doesn’t fly to Malmö?

However, the daughter of Matthias Reim and Marie Reim is also met with skepticism.
