The BRK district association Starnberg is now offering a home emergency call clock to make seniors more independent - a clock.

The first ones were handed over these days.

Starnberg

– Mobile, but still safe: The new “James B7” home emergency call watch from BRK Starnberg enables wearers to live more independently.

In an emergency, a large SOS button on the watch must be pressed for three seconds to then speak to the home emergency call center.

“In principle, you have a modern cell phone on your wrist,” explains Manuel Paul, managing director of the company “ilogs healthcare,” which produces the watches.

The watch contains GPS and can therefore be located throughout Germany.

No matter where the person seeking help is, the GPS determines the location data and the Red Cross organizes the appropriate help.

In everyday life, the watch measures steps and pulse and provides health data.

The chic look of the watch is another advantage, as the BRK district association emphasizes.

To the eye, the home emergency call clock looks like a modern smartwatch.

“Security with the latest technology that doesn’t stigmatize,” is how Paul describes the reason for the development.

Appearance was also an important argument for Elisabeth Schmid (85) - she doesn't want to wear the aid so prominently.

She and Hermine Lehnert were the first in the district to receive their watches these days.

And this personally from Manuel Paul and Markus Möbius, the head of operations services at the BRK Starnberg.

“When I marched here, I thought to myself, what if something happens to me now, there is no one around,” said Hermine Lehnert.

With the watch she no longer has to worry about this.

“Very practical – I think it’s great,” says Elisabeth Schmid.

In some cases, the nursing care insurance fund covers the costs

Anyone who decides on a watch creates a schedule for every conceivable emergency together with the BRK and names contact persons who will be informed.

The BRK Starnberg supports those affected, even if medical help is not needed.

For example, if something has fallen down or the person affected needs help getting up.

The background service takes care of this if no contact person is available.

Home emergency call devices have been available for your own four walls for a long time.

In this way, the BRK currently supports 1,809 customers in the district.

In 2023, 13 percent of them requested help per week.

Only around 43 percent of these emergencies involve medical operations - the rest mostly involve lifting aids.

You can also leave a key for your own apartment door at the BRK so that the rescue service or emergency doctor can quickly get to the apartment in the event of an acute emergency.

The cost of the watch varies depending on the package.

The cheapest is called the “Home emergency call basic package” and costs 31 euros per month.

However, the basic package is also available free of charge – with approval from the nursing care insurance company.

The most expensive package costs 69 euros per month.

Additional costs apply if the background service has to be called in.
