“If you've always dreamed of seeing what 7 meters of intestines are, you'll be able to see it in real life
. ”
Since February 16 and until June 30, the Cité internationale de la gastronomy in Lyon is hosting its new exhibition
“
Microbiote
”
.
A scientific journey inspired by the bestselling book
The Discreet Charm of the Intestine
by Giulia Enders, which has sold nearly 5.5 million copies worldwide and was already presented five years ago at the Cité des sciences et de Paris Industry.
On the 1st floor of the Hôtel-Dieu, a giant pink intestine welcomes visitors like a breadcrumb between the three parts of the exhibition which introduces the general public to the little-known world of the digestive system and its billions of bacteria, yeasts, viruses and fungi that it harbors.
““Microbiota” reminds us that without this ecosystem in our digestive tract, we could not live
,” indicates the exhibition.

“There is no miracle food”
Under the dome of the old hospital, the visitor begins his journey by entering a huge mouth like any food, then accesses an interactive room where the “
eight superstar bacteria”
of the digestive system have been selected.
Virtual autopsy, interactive screens follow one another to discover each organ and understand what happens in the mouth and the body when we eat.
An educational journey to raise awareness about the importance of the microbiota, the latest scientific advances on the subject but also about the important products to maintain this little world that works within us.
“There is no miracle food, it’s diversity that counts
,” explains Julie-Anne Nazare, director of the human nutrition research center in Rhône-Alpes.
The exhibition ends with a space highlighting local producers who participate in respecting the soil and plants that make up our food.
After “Banquet”, the Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie de Lyon returns to its initial vocation, linking food and health.
Two conferences will take place on March 7 and 26 in the presence of scientists and experts from the Hospices Civils de Lyon and the Lyonbiopole.
