A fire breaks out in a fish smokehouse on the promenade in the Baltic Sea resort of Schönberg.
Several people are saved - but for a 58-year-old woman any help comes too late.
Schönberg - A 58-year-old woman died on Saturday in a fire in a fish smokehouse on the promenade in the Baltic Sea resort of Schönberg (Plon district).
When the fire department was alerted at around 10:20 a.m., the fish shop was already fully engulfed in flames, the police said.
Several people trapped in a courtyard were rescued by firefighters.
However, for a 58-year-old woman, any help came too late.
She therefore died of smoke poisoning.
It was initially unclear why the fire broke out.
Emergency services looked after the rescued people.
By midday on Saturday the fire was largely under control and a large number of firefighters were on site.
