Nine artists wanted to buy their ticket to the ESC in Malmö in “Eurovision Song Contest – The German Final 2024” – but only one could emerge as the winner of the preliminary round: Isaak.

Berlin - The road to Malmö is difficult - at least for the German candidates for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. In addition to a jury selection process, there was even a talent show, the winner of which was allowed to compete in the preliminary decision on February 16, 2024 in Berlin.

Viewers saw a total of nine different acts on the show live from Berlin.

But only one German artist is allowed to travel to the international final in Sweden in May.

The decision has now been made.

German preliminary decision: These artists wanted to go to the ESC

The best-known candidate of the evening was probably Max Mutzke (42).

The musician already has ESC experience - in 2004 he competed for Germany in the international music competition and came in eighth place with "Can't Wait Until Tonight".

This year Max Mutzke didn't sing in German again, but applied for the ESC with the English song "Forever Strong".

Marie Reim (23), on the other hand, relied on hits: the daughter of Michelle (52) and Matthias Reim (66) performed “Naiv” on Friday evening.

The tough competition between the two consisted of the following artists: NinetyNine, who grew up in a family of musicians and wrote songs as a child.

He entered with the title “Love On A Budget”.

Floryan, who won the talent show “I want to go to the ESC!” with “Scars”.

Leona with “Undream You”, “X-Factor” participant Isaak with “Always On The Run”, the duo Galant with a song about cats, the Dutch Bodine Monet and Ryk.

The latter wanted to take advantage of his second chance - he had to admit defeat to Michael Schulte (33) in 2018.

In 2024 he tried his luck with the song “Oh Boy”.

Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö: Isaak is the German act

After an emotional evening in Berlin, a decision had to be made in the live broadcast, which was moderated by Barbara Schöneberger (49).

First, the voting results of the international jury of experts were announced - but viewers were also able to cast their votes via televoting.

In the end, none of the already well-known artists actually got to celebrate, but Isaak.

In recent years, Germany has not performed particularly well at the major musical event.

After Lena Meyer-Landrut (32) won in 2010, the back places were often reserved for German artists.

Not everyone was happy with this year's candidates either.

Ralph Siegel (78), for example, gossiped about Marie Reims' participation in the ESC preliminary round.
