As part of the anniversary celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Walchensee power plant, numerous lectures will take place this year.

There is great interest and one lecture is already fully booked.

Here is an overview of all the events still available and the additional dates.

Kochel am See – How can a dam be prepared for major floods?

How can fish swim through a hydroelectric power station?

The scientists at the Obernach Research Institute at the Technical University of Munich are looking for answers to these and other questions.

Head Professor Arnd Hartlieb will report on the work with models and simulations on Thursday, February 22nd.

The lecture begins at 6:30 p.m. in the information center of the power plant in Altjoch.

As reported, Kochler Helmut Renner has published two books about the construction history of the Walchensee power plant in collaboration with Uniper.

These books also contain comments by Peter Schwarz, who primarily focuses on technology.

Renner will speak not only on March 7th and September 26th at 6:30 p.m. in the information center in Altjoch, but also on Sunday, May 5th and Sunday, September 8th at 1 p.m., also in the information center in Altjoch.

Open day on May 5th

Peter Schwarz will also give several lectures.

The first date on April 11th is fully booked, but there are still places available on Sunday, May 5th and Sunday, September 8th, at 11 a.m. in the information center in Altjoch.

The power plant invites you to an open day on Sunday, May 5th.

What is special are the ascents to the moated castle, which are otherwise not possible as part of the guided tours.

There will only be further ascents to the moated castle on the day of the open monument, which this year is on Sunday, September 8th.

Entry free, but reservation required

Admission to all lectures is free, but reservations are required due to space constraints.

This is possible online at www.shop-kkk-lenggries.de or by calling Sabine Pfister from KKK Lenggries on 0 80 42/91 24 65, who takes care of all events organizationally.

The underwater archaeologist and research diver Florian Huber, who comes from Lenggries, knows the depths of Lake Walchen very well.

In a presentation on Thursday, May 2, he will not only talk about the lake, but also explain methods of documenting ancient shipwrecks and sunken cities around the world.

The lecture is suitable for children aged eight and over.

It takes place at 6:30 p.m. at the Heimatbühne in Kochel.

(Note: The lecture may be postponed for another day, editor's note.)

How did electricity come to the country?

A critical reflection on Bavarian traditional costume is also offered as part of the lecture program.

Alexander Karl Wandinger, head of the Center for Traditional Costume in the Upper Bavaria district, will talk about this on Thursday, June 6th, at 6:30 p.m. in the information center of the power plant in Altjoch.

Jan Borgmann, head of the folklore collection in the Glentleiten open-air museum, will report on the electrification of rural Upper Bavaria on Thursday, October 17th.

The lecture entitled “How electricity came to the country” will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the power plant’s information center.

Oskar von Miller was one of the most influential engineering personalities at the beginning of the 20th century.

As a pioneer in electrical engineering, he recognized the potential of hydropower and initiated the construction of the Walchensee power plant.

He also founded the German Museum in 1903.

The historian Wilhelm Füßl, former archive director of the German Museum, will speak on Thursday, November 7th about the engineer, about whom he also published a biography.

This lecture will also take place at 6:30 p.m. in the power plant's information center.
