The LDW faction in the Dorfen city council is fighting for the preservation of the cultural landscape, the pedestrian bridge in Niederham and much more.

Dorfen

– What took a long time is finally coming true: the pedestrian bridge at the old weir in Niederham will be built in June.

The bridge halfway between Dorfen and Oberdorfen has been discussed since 2014.

“A nice measure for many villagers,” says co-initiator Martin Heilmeier.

He has not given up on this project for ten years, reports the city council's annual meeting of its Landliste Dorfen-West (LDW) parliamentary group.

The crossing connects the walking paths to the right and left of the Isen in the western local recreation area of Dorfen: a great asset for pedestrians, cyclists, joggers and dog owners.

Heilmeier remembers that the district office and water management office repeatedly slowed down the project because the pedestrian bridge was in the FFH nature reserve.

“The project leads to significant impairment of protected areas and represents a significant intervention under federal nature conservation regulations,” wrote the district office in 2020.

After another site visit and a report that the bridge in Niederham has no adverse effects on fauna and flora, the contract for the construction work has now been awarded.

Cost: 133,000 euros.

Heilmeier is brimming with ideas; he holds a stack of A4 pieces of paper in his hand, all applications that were either recently submitted by the LDW or are still in the pipeline.

On the one hand, he represents issues that affect the rural population, but he is also concerned with urban development, after all, he is not just an “Oberdorfener”, but also a “Dorfener” who went to school in the city.

“We shouldn’t allow ourselves to be dragged down just because one thing or another doesn’t fit,” says the 56-year-old designer.

“Dorfen is a great city.” The Jakobmayer, the ice rink and the swimming pool, which he and many colleagues are currently fighting to preserve in the city council, are big plus points.

“We are many years ahead of other cities,” says Heilmeier.

One of the most important decisions a good ten years ago was the broadband expansion, as well as the municipal utilities' district heating network, for which the course was set in a vote in the Dorfen city council: "A stroke of luck," he thinks.

“We don’t have country versus city.”

For him it's about “factual politics without party banter”.

In the city council, Heilmeier often acts as a critical counterpoint to Mayor Heinz Grundner (CSU).

Renate Döllel from Oberdorfen has also been on the committee since 2021.

At first she was very nervous at the meetings and was afraid of finding the right words.

“You have to prepare very well,” said the 61-year-old housekeeper.

She cares about preserving the cultural landscape.

In her opinion, photovoltaic systems should be built next to the motorway and not, as the city council has now decided, in Wies near Grüntegernbach, where a ground-mounted PV system of gigantic proportions is planned: “This mega solar park is a significant incision in the landscape. “

The energy transition is important, but not like this: “In Wies, an entire valley is divided, the residents in Hochstraß see themselves as losers.” However, the four Landlist city councilors from Oberdorfen, Eibach and Schwindkirchen, who supported this project, were also losers in the vote wanted to prevent.

You can't always be on the winning side, Heilmeier admits.

And yet it is important to keep fighting.

For example, against a local bypass: “That is neither affordable nor enforceable by the nature conservation authorities,” he says.

In his opinion, a “relief clip past Hampersdorf, from one state road to the state road in Schwindkirchen via the Mehlmühletrasse” might be possible.

In addition to large construction projects, there are also small concerns on the LDW's agenda.

For example, a public toilet that is available all day.

Or the cycle path between Oberdorfen and Zeilhofen: “A lot of children cycle along here,” says Döllel.
