It was a busy year in 2023 for the Kirchdorf fire department.

In addition to striking figures and new elections, there was also a very special honor at the annual general meeting.

Kirchdorf

- “2023 was a successful year for us and marked by many beautiful memories,” is the conclusion of the Kirchdorf Volunteer Fire Department in the report of the general meeting.

The highlight was the 150th anniversary celebration on June 4th in Helfenbrunn with around 900 guests.

“It was a really nice celebration where everything went perfectly.

This was primarily due to the good preparations of our festival committee and the help of everyone involved,” says Tobias Kiel, first commander since 2007, in an interview with the FT.

According to fire department statistics, the volunteer emergency services from Kirchdorf were called upon for 114 missions in 2023 - an increase of around 25 percent compared to the previous year.

75 of these were medical emergencies to which the first responder was deployed.

The 49 volunteers worked 919 hours.

Helplessness of citizens

According to Kiel, the big increase of 25 percent was due to the increased deployment of the first responder unit.

When asked by the FT, he explains: “The helplessness of the population is increasing.

Medical situations in which you could help yourself are now more often assessed by someone else.” But there were also many acute emergencies that occurred around ten percent more often than in 2022.

The Kirchdorf fire department filled sandbags with the support of two other fire departments during an important large-scale exercise in December.

“The motivation and solidarity were extreme,” praises Commander Kiel.

The commander fondly remembers the exercise in mid-December at the sandbag filling plant.

In just under 15 minutes, six pallets of sandbags were filled together with the Wippenhausen and Nörting fire departments.

“The motivation was extremely high, which was certainly also due to the tense flood situation.”

The entire board was unanimously confirmed in office in the new elections.

1st board member Karl Denk, 2nd board member Andreas Steinberger, secretary Benedikt Schüller, treasurer Johann Eicheldinger, flag bearer Josef Steinberger and technical director Stefan Fischer will lead the club for another two years.

Role model for comrades

Some comrades were honored for their many years of service in the active military: Johannes Kiel (25 years of fire service), Tanja Kiel (30 years), Anton Pittner (30 years) and Wolfgang Pittner (30 years).

There was also a very special honor: the long-standing club board member Rudolf Ducke was appointed honorary chairman.

“He was on the board for a total of 16 years, was a co-founder of the fire brigade’s support association in 1992, and started the traditional kettle meat dinner, which still exists today,” says Kiel, listing just a few of the role model’s many achievements.

Two experienced comrades had to leave the active military.

Herbert Holzmann and Josef Weingartner have reached the age of 65 and are therefore “retiring” – after each a remarkable 46 years of service.

However, two comrades were promoted: Finn Augst to firefighter and Bernd Löhle to chief firefighter.
