A clear message, and a consensus: what is it about the Kippur fighters campaign that puts Netanyahu out of control?

Campaign against Binyamin Netanyahu/Lochmi Kippur 73

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a press conference last night (Saturday) in his office where he answered questions from journalists from the media.

At the end of his speech, he turned to the journalists and said: "I answered your questions, now I will ask you. I see publications worth tens of millions of dollars with inflammatory words against me. Didn't you think to investigate it? Didn't you think to check who is behind this huge money that is all incitement and division?".

Netanyahu referred to an outdoor campaign that includes huge signs across the country in which a picture of Netanyahu's head appears next to the inscription "You are the head - you are guilty", referring to the October 7 default.

He also defiantly asked: "If tens of millions of dollars worth of ads were published in support of me, wouldn't you do an investigation on it and open editions?"

A long article in the "Haaretz" supplement that was published on Friday and examined who is behind the campaign, could actually shed light on Netanyahu's claims, but it seems that the answer did not concern the prime minister.

The interesting thing is that this is not the first campaign that "removes the gloves" against the Prime Minister, nor is it the first campaign financed and run by former uniform wearers; during the coup attempt it was the "brothers in arms" and the reservists, along with various forums of former senior officials in the security establishment, who budgeted and signed about campaigns and ads against him - sometimes in a wide spread and on a multitude of platforms.

However, it seems that the current campaign, more successful than its predecessors, undermines Netanyahu's peace.

Already about two weeks ago, it was revealed in Walla! Branch that Netanyahu sent threatening letters against the publication of the campaign, with various different claims. According to the publication , even though the campaign also appeared on YouTube and Facebook, Netanyahu focused on the Israeli media demanding the removal of the campaign on the grounds that it "incites violence" - this despite the fact that there is not a single trace of a call for any action, violent or not.

One slogan touched the soft belly

The campaign, with a large investment and a wide deployment (according to a media research investigation for Walla! Baranja, it is worth at least two million shekels, not including outdoor signage), appeared on the major websites - but as mentioned strongly promoted and financed mainly on the social networks YouTube and Facebook.

The assessment at the time was that those around Netanyahu decided to use it to attack the "Israeli media" led by Keshet 12, Network 13 and more.

A common tactic in the Prime Minister's propaganda methods.

But even in all of these there is no answer to the question of why this specific campaign arouses so many emotions and counter-reactions among Netanyahu and his close circle.

One of the explanations for this is not based on those who finance it, but rather is found in the creative worlds.

Netanyahu, like Netanyahu, tries in every way to escape identification with the disaster or his own guilt and invests a lot of energy in doing so.

Whether in briefings against the army and the security forces or in the maintenance of his coalition - whose senior members, such as Minister Goldknoff and others, recite similar messages about his "innocence".

It is possible that with one slogan the Kippur fighters managed to touch the softest belly of all.

"And unlike classic protest organizations, Kippur fighters are a consensus in Israeli society. When such a message comes from them, Netanyahu knows that he will not be able to paint them in colors that are convenient for him."

"I appreciate that Netanyahu is taking this campaign so hard, beyond its visibility and large scope, because of two factors," says Raz Tsipris, political campaigner and owner of the Sosenko Tsipris advertising agency.

"First, the message is sharp and clear, and puts before the eyes what Netanyahu has been trying to obscure since 7/10: his direct responsibility for the massacre, as the one at the head of the system. Even dozens of press conferences and evasive answers cannot deal with such a sharp and clear message, which is distributed in such a massive way "

The second factor is the hostel of the campaign: Kippur fighters.

When such a message comes from them, Netanyahu's own generation of fighters, who are identified with the war that is considered to this day the biggest security failure in Israel's history, it conveys a double message: both about the degree of responsibility and the magnitude of the failure.

In addition, and unlike classic protest organizations, Kippur fighters are a consensus in Israeli society.

When such a message comes from them, Netanyahu knows that he will not be able to paint them in colors that are convenient for him.

That is why he is bothered by the campaign, which presents the plain and simple truth, and whose spokesmen are not the people he is most comfortable dealing with."
