She has experienced two world wars and even the monarchy.

Now Charlotte Voigt celebrated her 108th birthday.

To celebrate her special day, a very special wish came true - the Prime Minister simply brought the flowers himself.

Munich – On her 107th birthday, Charlotte Voigt was in the mood for jokes.

“Markus Söder has to congratulate me on my next birthday,” she joked with her roommates at the Marie-Anne-Clauss senior center in the south of Munich last year.

Some employees didn't miss the joke.

And indeed: Yesterday, a year later, Voigt's wish came true.

The “cheerful child” sits in the canteen with her daughter Kristina Baer.

Voigt wore pearls and chose a shimmering twin set in rosé.

You don't meet the Prime Minister every day - just as you don't turn 108 every day.

Six of her favorite roommates are sitting around her.

They want to celebrate with “Lotte” – and don’t want to miss the spectacle.

Statistics reveal how many Bavarians are over 95 years old

The

State Office for Statistics

can use data collection to summarize exactly how many people aged 95 and older live in the Free State.

The administrative region

of Upper Bavaria is the frontrunner

- a total of 8,504 people in this country fall into this age group.

Broken down by district, the most

populous Munich district

has the highest number of people over 95 years old (744).

Only in the

state capital Munich

are there significantly more at 2267.

There are 531 people in this age group

in the

Rosenheim district and 431 in the

Fürstenfeldbruck district

. This is followed by the districts of

Starnberg

with 375 and

Dachau

with 320. The Neuburg-Schrobenhausen district has the fewest number of people over 95 with 112.

The data from the statistics office refers to the year

2022

.

Those for 2023 are not yet available.

Markus Söder presents flowers and sings a serenade

The sun falls into the canteen through the large panoramic window.

Two black cars drive up.

The residents raise their heads.

A cavalier with a bouquet of flowers gets out.

He comes to congratulate Voigt.

When Prime Minister Markus Söder enters the room, manager Daniela Quarter and occupancy manager Tina Altmann can hardly believe that their plan has worked.

Although US Vice President Kamala Harris announced her state visit this morning.

But when Söder stretches out his hand to the oldest resident of her facility early in the morning and sings the birthday song “How nice that you were born,” everything becomes very real.

Prime Minister as a congratulator: Markus Söder asks for a recipe for a long life

Lotte Voigt is a big hit fan and would love to dance right now - if she weren't in a wheelchair.

“She always liked doing that,” says Baer.

“I’m fine,” says Voigt and laughs.

At 108, her eyes are no longer as sharp, but she beams when the guest of honor serves her a “bottle” of champagne.

“I am 51 years younger than you,” says Söder.

“How do you live to be 108 years old?” Voigt doesn’t even know what to say.

Hearing is also not that easy at this age.

But then Voigt says: “I don’t even know how I did it.

Working a lot helps, and not thinking too much about how you're feeling.” But maybe it's the hits that keep her so young.

Howard Carpendale & Co. often admire her on television in the evening until she falls asleep.

An elixir of life?

Lotte Voigt (108) experienced the monarchy and two world wars

In 108 years, Voigt has worked a lot and hard.

In the middle of the First World War - on Valentine's Day 1916 - she was born in Vogtland as the youngest of seven children.

Her parents keep chickens, pigs and a goat, so she started helping with the slaughter as a girl.

She also survived the Second World War and the deprivation post-war period.

She raises four daughters with her husband Erich and flees the GDR.

Edith is now 90, Hannelore 83 and Kristina 76. Only Ursula died at the age of 65.

Voigt has lived as a widow without her Erich for 52 years.

He died of lung cancer in 1972 at 59.

“That’s life,” she says.

But she was able to experience how her 13 great-grandchildren became adults and hold her five great-great-grandchildren in her arms.

Lotte Voigt is actually a late riser.

When she has said goodbye to the Prime Minister and the party in the canteen is over, she goes to bed in her room for an afternoon nap.

Surrounded by her family – and the photos on the wall that tell of her long life.
