A man got into trouble in the mountains.

A helicopter had to be requested from Carinthia because all Bavarian police helicopters were tied up with the Siko.

Bad Reichenhall - The life of a 37-year-old man was saved near Bad Reichenhall on Saturday night (February 17th) by mountain rescuers and the use of helicopters.

The mountaineer got into trouble while descending from the Reichenhaller Haus via an alpine path because he kept getting into deep old snow fields and also had problems with his knee, as the Bavarian Red Cross announced on Saturday.

He contacted his wife on his cell phone, who then asked the mountain rescue service for support.

“The crew of the Salzburg emergency medical helicopter 'Christophorus 6' tried to locate the man in mountain distress using their headlights, but could not find him,” the press release says.

With the onset of darkness, the man was finally located using a thermal imaging camera.

In order to bring him to safety from the area at risk of falling, helpers climbed up on foot.

Since, according to the Red Cross, all Bavarian police helicopters were in use due to the Munich Security Conference, a helicopter from Carinthia was finally called in.

He picked up the man using a cable winch and transported him into the valley for further medical care.
