He was later pronounced dead by firefighters, the institution said.

“devastated beyond belief”

by Troper's death.

There is no sign that there was any illegality, and the Alameda County coroner's department will investigate and determine the cause of death, said Janet Gilmore, director of strategic communications for the university.

“Marco

was the most noble, kind, intelligent and fun human being

,” the grandmother wrote on Facebook.

“He was just starting his second semester at UC Berkeley, concentrating on math, and he loved it.”

The woman also highlighted in her post that Marco "told them endless stories about his life and friends in Berkeley.

"Marco's life was gone too soon. And we are all devastated, thinking about the opportunities and life experiences that he will never have and that we will never all have together," he added.
