Problems with school bus traffic made waves in Röhrmoos last fall.

Now the topic came up again at a meeting of the main and finance committee.

The result is an appeal to the district office

Röhrmoos – Problems with school bus traffic in Röhrmoos caused quite a stir last fall.

At that time, it was primarily the closure of the Großinzemoos town thoroughfare for several months that caused school buses to stray (we reported).

The fact that school bus traffic has still not returned to normal was now confirmed by Free Voters local councilor Schorsch Niederschweiberer on behalf of the chairwoman of the parents' council at the Röhrmoos primary school, Daniela Reischl, and Andrea Meil, who is responsible for the school route on the parents' council, in a meeting of the main committee. and Finance Committee.

Niederschweiberer reported that on January 21st, a Geldhauser school bus got lost in a traffic-calmed zone on Stögnfeld and got stuck around a tree while turning.

“The fire department had to cut down the tree to expose the damaged bus.

“Unfortunately, this is not the first incident, but part of a long series where bus drivers from this company got lost, endangering passengers and sometimes even causing accidents,” emphasized Niederschweiberer.

He recalled that on November 20, 2023, a school bus came to Biberbach via the Vierkirchen detour and that on September 26, 2023, a school bus turned towards Edeka instead of to Schönbrunn and Rudelzhofen and, when reversing, hit a car and the bus door in the intersection area damaged.

The passengers are usually primary school children between the ages of six and eleven who are understandably dependent on the transport and care of the bus driver.

Communication with the children is problematic

What is particularly problematic is that very few bus drivers speak German and therefore cannot communicate with the children.

“On the one hand, the children should get to school independently, but on the other hand, it is difficult to build trust in the reliability of the bus drivers under the given circumstances,” said Niederschweiberer.

According to him, who was chairman of the parents' council at the Röhrmoos school for many years, the concerned parents would urgently appeal to the community and the district office to select and commission bus companies primarily based on reliability and safety aspects, and not just to look at the price.

Reliability as an important criterion

A discussion quickly developed within the committee.

The parliamentary groups are suggesting that the district office pay greater attention to the reliability of the bidders in the evaluation process in future tenders.

The previous incidents with overwhelmed bus drivers have long since been reported to the complaints office in the district office.

Deputy Mayor Arthur Stein, who also serves on the district council, assured that the district office was aware of the problems with school bus traffic.

However, he got the impression that the complaints from Röhrmoos had received little attention in the district office.

Mayor Dieter Kugler (CSU) spoke out in favor of continuing to report any problematic incidents to the district office.

Kugler also comes to the conclusion that the award process for buses should not only look at the cheapest offer.

Despite everything, it should not be overlooked that the bus companies also suffer from personnel problems.

This is evident in tenders, where sometimes only a single offer is submitted to the district.
