The endless debates around the future open-air gypsum quarry of Placoplatre on the site of Fort de Vaujours, located straddling the commune of Seine-Saint-Denis of the same name and that of Courtry in Seine-et-Marne, would almost make us forget that a few hundred meters away, the plaster giant is already exploiting the gypsum present under the Bernouille woods, in Coubron.
The collapse of part of this quarry on the weekend of February 10 is a reminder of the risks inherent to this underground construction site.
In a decree dated February 12, the prefect of Seine-Saint-Denis, Jacques Witkowski, ordered "immediately, as a preventive measure, the suspension of the exploitation of a zone with a radius of 100 meters around of the fontis area”.
