Will she finally come out of the woods?
Ursula von der Leyen could declare herself a candidate for reappointment for five more years at the head of the European Commission, during a trip this Monday, February 19 to Berlin.
In the process, she should receive the anointing of the European People's Party (EPP, conservatives) which will meet in congress in Bucharest (Romania) on March 6 and 7.
Without a credible competitor, dubbed by her own political family which, this time again, is given a comfortable lead in the European election next June, the German is moving forward as the big favorite for her own succession.
However, the candidacy of Angela Merkel's former minister suffers from a handicap.
The one whose face has embodied the European Green Deal since the end of 2019 (the famous “Green deal”), this ambitious program intended to put Europe on the path to carbon neutrality in 2050, is she not weakened while in the four corners of the Old Continent, climate standards from Brussels are being called into question?
