She wanted to make a big impact, she did even better than expected.
After the prize for the most beautiful costume won in 2023 at the Venice Carnival for her outfit on the theme of the signs of the Zodiac, this year, Karen Duthoit imagined a dress in the shape of a crown, in a nod to her victory.
“It was the year or never to dare to wear such a dress.
Anyway, in my mind, it wasn't possible to win twice in a row so I might as well have fun,” laughs the Northerner.
Yes, but there you go.
Despite her off-theme costume, since this year the masks were invited to celebrate Marco Polo for the 700th anniversary of his death, Karen Duthoit learned on Sunday February 11 that her spectacular dress had won all the votes.
And here she is once again queen of the Venice carnival, with her costume aptly named “K-Queen of Masks”.
“It’s even better to win in these conditions, I have to pinch myself to believe it.
It’s so incredible what’s happening to me!
It’s truly the magic of carnival,” smiles Karen Duthoit.
“It’s a real passion”
At 43, this resident of Estaires (North) has participated in the competition every year for thirteen years.
Until winning his first award four years ago.
“It’s a real passion.
Each time, I leave Venice with a new costume idea, which I refine over the year, with sketches.
And five weeks before the start of the carnival, I attack the production, in intensive mode!
