“Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” candidate Simone Beckmann makes a happy confession – and tells Günther Jauch about a special night with Udo Jürgens.
Cologne – Landing on the quiz chair opposite Günther Jauch (67) in “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”, answering all the questions and going home with a million euros at the end: That is the goal of every candidate.
But on the way there they also chat about personal things.
Same goes for Simone Beckmann.
The “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” candidate talks to Günther Jauch on Monday evening (February 19, 2024) about her very special night with none other than pop legend Udo Jürgens († 80).
“Crazy guy”: “Who wants to be a millionaire?” candidate raves about meeting pop star Udo Jürgens
Simone Beckmann worked in a hotel in Göttingen around 23 years ago, as the “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” candidate Günther Jauch explains.
Udo Jürgens had a concert in the city at the time and was staying in the hotel where Beckmann was working as a receptionist at the time.
After the sound check, she was curious about the band and the famous guest and went to join them at the hotel bar.
Günther Jauch asks in astonishment: “What did you actually do that night…”.
“…did it with Udo?” she finishes his question.
“We drank a few vodka lemons and had a lot of fun.
We had a lot to talk about,” recalls the “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” candidate with a grin on her face.
Udo Jürgens not only offered her the “du” but also gave her two concert tickets – for her and the night porter.
The next day she goes to the concert.
“It was sensational,” said Beckmann.
“Then I was allowed backstage, but I thought: He doesn’t know who you are anymore anyway,” she says.
But it turned out quite differently.

The pop legend came to her and said: “Simone, there you are”.
Then he took her in his arms.
Günther Jauch is also amazed and asks again: “He could remember you?
Namely?”.
Yes, Udo Jürgens could still remember Simone Beckmann.
“With a bathrobe,” she continues.
“He still had it on and then I snuggled up to him.
“Udo was an amazing guy,” enthuses the “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” candidate.
Udo Jürgens had his last TV appearance with Helene Fischer
A very special goosebumps moment: In 2014, Udo Jürgens appeared on the “Helene Fischer Show” and sang a duet with Helene Fischer.
The appearance on Schlagerqueen was his last television appearance.
The Austrian died ten days after his performance.

“Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” candidate makes it clear: Udo Jürgens and she cuddled in a bathrobe – nothing more
Before it comes to the millions again, Günther Jauch has one more question.
With a meaningful grin he asks: “That was around 11 p.m., right?
And have you forgotten the rest?”.
But nothing more than a harmless hug actually happened that evening.
“No, I was looking forward to the second round of his concert and then I drove home,” assures the “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” candidate.

“But the bathrobe always ends up with Udo at the end?” asks Günther Jauch skeptically.
“No, he actually had it on backstage.
On that day.
He was sweating so much that it all went down his throat.
It didn't bother me at all.
I rubbed myself with my hair.
“It was great,” smiles Simone Beckmann.
Günther Jauch looks at his candidate in disgust after this confession.
Nonetheless, an incredible story.
TV viewers will find out whether Simone Beckmann gets to the million dollar question or has to give up beforehand on Monday, February 19th from 8:15 p.m. on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”
Speaking of which: a lot went wrong at the season opener.
All remaining four “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” candidates failed in the selection question.
And then “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” presenter Günther Jauch also has to deal with a glitch with the replacement question.
