The record-breaking weather in February is holding up well.
Will this be followed by March winter?
A meteorologist thinks this is possible.
Wiesbaden - February 2024 is on track to be the warmest February since weather records began in 1881.
And overall, the winter could end up in the top three warmest winters in more than 140 years.
“This confirms all long-term weather forecasts from summer 2023,” notes qualified meteorologist Dominik Jung.
Weather: Will March winter follow record-warm February?
They would have considered exactly this scenario to be very likely.
“Despite two short winter phases, the rest of the winter was so extremely mild that such a large temperature deviation could occur,” explains the weather expert.
The average temperature in February is currently 7.1 degrees.
“February is significantly warmer than an average March,” says Jung, describing the result.
In the first month of spring the temperature is usually only around 4.6 degrees.
Snow on Easter?
According to meteorologists, this would not be unusual.

Will the springlike February be followed by a summery March?
Unlikely, because the forecasts indicate a “completely normal month” for March, reports the meteorologist.
That in turn would be colder than the current February.
“For most people, this could certainly be perceived as March winter.”
Delayed outbreaks of cold air in March or April would not be unusual.
“Snowflakes around Easter wouldn’t be a big surprise either,” says Jung.
This too has all happened before.
February 2024 will be significantly warmer than an average March
This week things will continue to be mild at first.
On Thursday it will reach 16 or 17 degrees in the south of Germany.
It doesn't get quite that warm in Hesse.
The German Weather Service (DWD) predicts temperatures between 11 and 15 degrees for Thursday.

Because the DWD continues to expect rain, clouds and stormy gusts.
According to Jung, the mild air masses will also determine the weather this week.
“Nature is around 3 weeks ahead of its time in Germany,” explains the meteorologist in conclusion.
