Boxes of books and long queues: the Gröbenzell book flea market remains a magnet for visitors.

6,000 bookworms even came from far away to stock up on new fiction, audio books and games.

They found what they were looking for because the selection was again huge.

Gröbenzell

– Several large piles of board and card games and puzzles are piled up next to Anahita Jadaghiani and her mother Elisabeth Mertens.

The two found what they were looking for at the book flea market in Gröbenzell.

“We were there half an hour before the Wildmooshalle opened, went through it quickly in the first ten minutes and packed everything that looked good,” says Jadaghiani about their tactics.

Now they decide what they really want to buy.

Book flea markets are two days of vacation

The two women from Gröbenzell are professionals.

They have been visiting the book flea market for around 20 years.

“I love that,” says Mertens.

“Friends of mine are going to Crete now.

My vacation is two days of book flea market.” Although games were a priority for them, Mertens and Jadaghiani also want to browse the books later.

“You can find unbeatably cheap things here,” enthuses Mertens.

She also likes the fact that she meets lots of friends in the halls.

Gabrielle Arendt is already at the checkout.

Numerous audio books went into her bag.

“I don’t find enough time to read,” explains the Fürstenfeldbruck native.

She appreciates the large selection in Gröbenzell.

“You find classics, but also a lot of things that only came out a few years ago.

Her daughter comes every year from Hof, where she studies, to the book flea market to stock up on reading material.

Visitors come from far away

Sonja Wanner from the organization team also found out in a small survey that people sometimes have long journeys to travel.

Although many came from Gröbenzell, Puchheim, Munich or Fürstenfeldbruck, she also met visitors from Bad Tölz, Landshut, Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz and Landsberg.

“They particularly like the organization and the pre-sorting,” says Wanner.

“Many people also praised the fact that the quality of the books is very high.” The team collected 2,000 boxes, or around 100,000 books, this year.

Children's books, crime novels and novels are particularly popular, but games and art also do well.

Even before the opening at 10 a.m., around 6,000 people were waiting outside to get in.

Shortly before 12 p.m. you can hardly find any space left in the book boxes.

The queue at the checkouts stretches halfway across the hall.

“The peak is between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.,” says Wanner.

The parking lot is completely overcrowded.

Go to the checkout with full pockets

“We parked at the train station,” reports Tina Freihart.

She came from Fürstenfeldbruck with a friend and her children.

It is her first visit to the book flea market.

“I'm a bit overwhelmed because I didn't think there would be so many people there.” But the selection is really big.

The girls are already proudly presenting their first haul: books about Bibi and Tina as well as from the Ostwind series.

A few rows away, Manfred Wersching is looking for photography books.

He has already found four interesting specimens.

“I came here with a plan and am searching very specifically,” reports the Puchheimer.

Things are different with Werner Stanglmeier from Munich.

“I'm just looking for books of all kinds. With so many books, it's difficult to find something special,” he says.

His bag still gets pretty full every year.

“But the advantage is that everything is quite cheap.”

Next to him, a woman from Gröbenzell happily pulls the crime thriller “Milk Money” from the Kluftinger series out of one of the boxes.

Above all, she came to collect the crime series by Volker Klüpfel and Michael Kobr.

“I think the cycle that the books take is great.”
