Two FSJ members from TSV Jahn Freising want to carry out a garbage collection campaign.

However, neither the city nor the district will cover the costs of disposal.

Sponsors are now being sought.

Freising

- Leander Hoffmann (19) and Dominik Weinhold (18) have already planned everything: On Saturday, April 13th, the two, who are doing a Voluntary Social Year (FSJ) at TSV Jahn Freising, want to work together with young and old Jahn- Members collect garbage in the Freising city area.

Benedikt Neumayer from the triathlon department gave them the idea.

“I travel a lot in Freising and the surrounding area during training and have made it a habit to take rubbish with me.

Because there’s a lot lying around.”

The two FSJ members decided to set up a collection campaign on a larger scale.

This benefited them because they had to carry out a child and youth work project as part of their FSJ anyway.

Last year it was the organization of a children's carnival, this year it will be a kind of "Ramadama": In small groups, carelessly thrown away rubbish will be collected on foot and on cargo bikes on paths and parking lots in the Freising city area and brought to the TSV site.

Construction yard can't help

As far as disposal was concerned, Hoffmann and Weinhold asked the city whether the building yard could collect the bags and dispose of them properly.

But Beate Metz from the Office for Urban Planning, Environment and Climate Protection rejected the two of them: collecting the garbage bags and disposing of them free of charge could not be done by employees of the building yard.

When asked by the FT, Metz explains that the municipality has no financial means to support such an action.

Because the budget is still not finalized, it is even questionable whether the “Clean Landscape Campaign” initiated by the city can take place as usual this year.

An answer that did not satisfy Neumayer, Hoffmann and Weinhold.

They researched further and came across information on the city of Freising's homepage that irritated them: private individuals are allowed to carry out private Ramadama activities in small groups.

You will receive two garbage bags per participant from the district office, which can then be disposed of free of charge at the recycling center.

Private individuals yes, associations no

However, this regulation does not apply to TSV Jahn: a club is not a private individual, but a corporation, according to the district office.

“It's a great story and a very commendable idea that these young people say they go and collect garbage voluntarily,” emphasizes spokesman Robert Stangl.

But he also says: “Unfortunately there is no way to support this campaign financially.” He refers to the legal basis: the fees for waste disposal are financed by the general fee payers, i.e. the citizens.

Actions like the one planned by TSV Jahn are not covered.

Because you don't want to open the door to anyone who would commit mischief at the expense of the general public.

However, there is a district council resolution: The Freising district can provide the municipalities with a maximum of 25,000 euros per year for the “Clean Landscape Campaign”.

Both the district office and the city of Freising therefore suggested that TSV Jahn take part in this garbage collection campaign - if it is carried out in Freising.

Hope rests on sponsors

For Hoffmann and Weinhold, that's not an option: "That wouldn't be until October, our FSJ ends in August." That's why they're now looking for sponsors: The Wurzer company has already agreed to accept the garbage.

However, the bags also have to be brought there; a vehicle is needed for this, as well as food for the volunteer collectors.

“We are still motivated to carry out the campaign.

In doing so, we are doing something good for the children, the city and nature,” says Leander Hoffmann.

Dominik Weinhold adds: “In the truest sense of the word, we don’t want to just throw everything away.”
