The Stang-Ar-lin mansion has just been put up for sale for the sum of 1,695,000 euros. Built in 1903, it is one of the architectural jewels

It's pink in name only.

But the rumor spread like wildfire in Concarneau (Finistère).

The famous Stang-Ar-Lin mansion, nicknamed for decades the “pink castle”, overlooking the Moros body of water, is for sale for a sum that is not affordable to everyone: €1,695,000.

In neo-Gothic style, with an area of 450 m2, it still includes 17 rooms on four floors, with pulsed oil heating, on a plot of 1.5 hectares.

It was built in 1903 for Gustave Bonduelle, then owner of the Bonduelle-Martineau company.

It was then sold to a businessman who experienced financial setbacks.

The mansion remained unoccupied for a long time and was also looted and vandalized.

From the prosperous period, some stained glass windows, the stone tower, the panoramic terrace and corbels remain.

It was then sold at auction to its last owner, who had recently died, who had begun to renovate it.

His heirs decided to put it up for sale, while wanting the place to preserve its historic side.

The life of a squire is not for everyone.

According to the wishes of successive owners, the site is not listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments but could very well claim it.

The castle was put up for sale within the Quimper agency Terre d'Immo, managed by Christophe Guéguen, an agency which references charming and prestigious residences.

“The site could be perfectly suitable for a hotel project or a gourmet restaurant.

We have already had visits from people, French and foreign, with professional projects.

This castle is truly an exceptional property, rare on the real estate market.

» Lovers of historic sites could also become buyers, with the idea and ambition of renovating the castle and restoring it to its original splendor and especially its famous pink color.

A shell yellow color

Indeed, if the castle was pink when it was built, it has become, over the years, between renovations and erosion, shell yellow.

Everyone only calls it the “pink castle”.

Where did this surprising original color come from?

Despite much research, the mystery remains intact.

Did the first owner have a passion for pink?

Was he inspired by the famous sailor's shelters, traditionally pink, created at the beginning of the 20th century to accommodate sailors stopping off in Breton ports?

It is not at all established that the castle was intended to provide a roof for sailors.

The question therefore remains asked.
