Farmers' demonstration, AfD appearance, lateral thinkers and a larger police presence - unwanted circumstances at the district Greens' New Year's reception yesterday, Sunday.
But unlike similar events in recent times, things remained quiet.
Weilheim
– Some time before the reception began, the first guests from politics, business and society were presented with a surprising picture.
Several police VW buses were parked opposite the Sendl family's organic store on Pütrichstrasse: they had gotten wind that some farmers from the district were planning an unregistered tractor parade.
As a precaution, the Weilheim police leadership asked for support from forces from the Oberland in view of what was happening in other federal states.
The riot police were tied up because of the Munich Security Conference.
At around 11 a.m., at the planned start of the reception, around a dozen tractors and several support vehicles set out to make four large laps around the meeting location - accompanied by the police.
And as in other places: the AfD attached itself to the farmers' demonstration.
A small group, including Weilheim city councilor Rüdiger Imgart and state parliament member Benjamin Nolte, stood on the sidewalk opposite the store entrance with a banner that read "Enough."
“Colorful group” of AfD members, farmers and lateral thinkers
According to one participant, there were also a few farmers and several lateral thinkers there: “A colorful group.” Reception visitors found the addition on a self-painted poster with the inscription “Stop the Greens!” garnished with “unspeakable” and “impossible”. the addition: “Never again is now.” The AfD thus adopted the slogan of the nationwide demonstrations against right-wing extremism.
While the tractors drove past the AfD members outside, inside at the reception, host Michael Sendl said, looking at the tractor drivers: “I would be very happy if they greeted us on our side and not on the other side when they drove past.”
“Democratic values are being trampled on”
Martin Adler, spokesman for the district Green Party, thanked the police for their efforts: “It concerns me that a New Year’s reception requires a preliminary discussion with the police.”

State parliament member Andreas Krahl spoke of “brown comrades out there” who would trample on democratic values.
And he said in reference to the reception guests: “I was invited by the police to a conversation in which the question was whether your and my safety is guaranteed.” Freedom of expression is abused by those who believe that theirs opinion remains unchallenged.
Most of the parade participants, farmers and craftsmen, drove to the Hochlandhalle with their tractors and other vehicles bearing posters at the end of the demonstration.
However, a tractor and some protest vehicles were parked at the AfD citizens' office.
