Commissioners will be appointed by the government in the next few days to take over the running of the troubled former ILVA Acciaierie d'Italia (AdI) steelworks in Taranto, which is to go into extraordinary administration after the government, which owns 38% of the mill, failed to reach an agreement with multinational group ArcelorMittal, which has a 62% stake, according to Taranto Confindustria industrial association president Pasquale Di Napoli, head of the provincial engineering sector group, speaking after talks between the government and AdI suppliers Monday night.

Di Napoli, who represents most of AdI's local suppliers, said ministers including Cabinet Secretary Alfredo Mantovano, Economy Minister Gianraco Giorgetti and Industry Minister Adolfo Urso had opted for the extraordinary adminstration of the sprawling plant over another solution called preventive concordat, which AdI had initially preferred.
