Maiken Winter from Raisting is known as a district councilor and climate activist.

Now she has put together a remarkable series of events.

Weilheim – Dr.

Maiken Winter from Raisting (56) and her non-profit association “WissenLeben” are organizing a series of events entitled “Klartext Climate” with the Weilheim Adult Education Center from Monday, February 26th (see below).

In an interview with our newspaper, the ÖDP district councilor and biologist talks about her motivation for setting up such a series and her role as a climate activist and scientist.

Aren't you worried that the events won't reach those you want to reach?

No, I hope to reach the people who still need discussion.

The topic simply still needs a lot of information and discussion.

You sympathize with the climate stickers.

Don't you think this will deter visitors?

That could be true, but it would be a shame.

I have been active in the area of “climate protection” for much longer than the “last generation”.

Maybe it's not intimidating for people, but rather interesting to see what's behind my motivation.

I am organizing the series not as an activist, but as a scientist and club chairwoman.

Niko Paech will speak at the “Together” event series in the Weilheim parish hall on April 18th.

You have hired some high-profile speakers, was that difficult?

No, that wasn't it.

I have been in good contact with many of them for a long time.

I know Niko Paech from my coffee tours, where we distribute fairly traded coffee across Germany on our bikes.

My news

A tree that defines the cityscape is felled “at night and in fog”.

  • Farmers' demonstration before the Green Party's annual reception - the AfD applauds

  • A family is fighting for the right to stay - but the bureaucratic hurdles are huge

  • Peißenberger harasses acquaintance from the gym in traffic reading

  • Is planned flood protection in Peißenberg enough? Sharp criticism of the water management office

  • 19-year-old loses control of his car: total loss and federal road closed

Entry to the events is free, how does your club finance this?

I hope to get enough donations.

All speakers are essentially volunteers.

The club pays the hall rent.

Perhaps some new members will join the “WissenLeben” association through the events.

They cover highly topical topics such as “civil disobedience”, “climate change” and “economic growth”.

Which topic is most important to you personally?

The most important thing is not the individual topics and lectures, but that we recognize that everything belongs together.

If people's lives are threatened because of the climate crisis, then democracy is also in danger.

The right gets stronger the worse off people are.

Therefore, climate protection is also protection of democracy and a contribution to peace.

Sometimes resistance is also necessary to protect democracy and the climate.

You yourself are also giving a lecture on climate change, where do you get your information from?

Since 2007, I have given hundreds of lectures on the topic.

I get my information from renowned institutes and universities in Germany, Great Britain or North America.

These are exclusively scientific sources.

What is interesting is that the data base on the climate crisis has been almost unchanged for years.

And yet many people are still surprised by the facts that have long been known.

When will the event series be a success for you and which lecture are you most looking forward to?

It would be nice if those who are already active were encouraged in their commitment.

And it would be even nicer if doubters and skeptics thoroughly reconsider their stance.

And it would be nicest if we found a common basis on which we could become much more active in climate protection in and around Weilheim, for example with the “Weilheim Can Climate” initiative.

I look forward to all the lectures, they are all so different.

I don't have a favorite lecture.

I hope that the lesser-known speakers also receive a good response.
