This devilish duel could have ended in catastrophe.

We are talking about an illegal car race that took place on Monday night on Federal Highway 2 between Scharnitz and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

There will definitely be legal repercussions for the two completely unleashed pilots.

Mittenwald

- At around 12:30 a.m., a federal police patrol at the Mittenwald-Scharnitz border crossing noticed two vehicles driving at high speed along the B 2 towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

“Speeds of over 200 kilometers per hour were sometimes reached,” said a police spokesman.

On several occasions, the Hollywood-style chase resembled a Formula One race.

The two drivers overtook despite the ban on overtaking and oncoming traffic, as well as in confusing places.

Other road users sometimes had to swerve and brake to avoid a collision.

“Fortunately, no one was harmed by the reckless behavior of the two drivers,” said the spokesman for the Garmisch-Partenkirchen inspection department.

At the entrance to Partenkirchen, the BMW and the Nissan were stopped by local police patrols.

The two drivers - a 50-year-old man from Thuringia and a 28-year-old Austrian - had to hand in their driver's license on site due to suspicion of illegal motor vehicle racing.

The law enforcement officers also temporarily secured their cars pending a court order.

“A means of crime that was used to commit a crime,” explains the police spokesman.

It is still unclear why the two of them raced along the B 2 like they were unleashed.

According to police, alcohol was not a factor.

In the worst case, speeders face a prison sentence of up to three years.

Witnesses to the incident are asked to contact the Garmisch-Partenkirchen police.
