A new and disturbing phenomenon is currently upsetting the owners of Suzuki Jimny Jeeps in Israel, following an unprecedented wave of thefts since the beginning of the year of Jeeps from Israeli territories to the Palestinian Authority.

This is when the thieves unhindered, under the noses of the police, demonstratively document their trips in the stolen vehicles on the authority's premises, with the identification plate a few hours after the time of the theft.

Jimani thefts are carried out all over the State of Israel and at any time of the day.

The audacity of the thieves increases when, even if the owners of the vehicles install visible protection, the thieves do not hesitate to damage the jeeps, leaving behind a painful and infuriating souvenir.

Tomer, a resident of Tel Aviv (30), who was recently released from reserve service in Gaza arrived at the parking lot under his house in the city center about a week ago and discovered to his astonishment that the vehicle was gone.

"On Sunday morning at 07:30 I arrived at the place where I parked, in the center of Tel Aviv, and I see that another car is parked there. I checked in front of the municipality that my car was not towed. I notice a broken window on the floor and then I realized that the car was stolen," recalls Tomer in a conversation with Walla !.

"This is a 2020 Suzuki Jimny Jeep, upgraded and improved. I went to the police and filed a complaint, collected documentation from security cameras, and already in the evening I received documentation on Facebook groups that the vehicle was stolen from the territories. The thieves uploaded documentation with the vehicle in the Ramallah area, including with an identification plate, without stripping him at all. They don't care, they know the police won't come in and take him out."

Tomer adds painfully: "After 140 days in Gaza, I went out two weeks ago into the winter, into the floods, I so wanted to go back to travel. This is a very painful blow, certainly after everything I did for the country."

He angrily says: "We are simply left without protection, without support, no one cares. As far as the state is concerned, the insurance companies will pay. Insurance prices are rising and this cycle does not stop. You have to understand, SUVs, with all the additions and improvements, cost quite a bit. I invested tens Thousands of shekels. No one is going to return all the money to me."

According to him, this is not only an event of criminal significance.

"Thief squads come here from the territories into the heart of the country, into cities and residential neighborhoods and steal vehicles. This is a violation of personal security at the highest level. Even those who protect their Jimny with protective shields and the like, they break windows on purpose so that you know you are in the crosshairs. In the last month , they say that over 100 jeeps were stolen, all of them new Jimnys."

Why do you think they are now focusing on the Jimny?

"There was a rumor that Hamas, as part of the abductees' deal, demanded Jimny-type jeeps. The second hypothesis is that it is easy for the Palestinians to move with a Jimny in the sea of their villages, and central roads that they are not allowed to drive on. By the way, it is not that the vehicles are taken to car slaughterhouses or sold back to Israel. It simply became their recreational vehicle. But the most infuriating thing is that they are not afraid, and leave the license plate. They don't even try to hide."

In perhaps a last-ditch effort to curb the scourge of thefts, the owners of jeeps, who are routinely unionized, try to help each other in several ways.

"In all the groups of the gymnasiums, there is not a day that there is not one or two reports about the theft of a jeep. They talk about how to protect the vehicle, about stickers in Arabic with warnings to thieves. You will understand where we have come from."

Also for Noa, a resident of Tel Aviv, the Jimny was stolen at the beginning of the month from the parking lot under her house in the Madinah Square area.

"I immediately called the police and asked them to come check cameras in the neighborhood, on construction sites and on the street," she says.

"The police asked me to come to the station. As soon as I gave them the number of the vehicle, they described to me what it looked like, and said that it went through a checkpoint at three in the morning and immediately said that they do not enter the territories, and that there is nothing they can do."

Noa says: "The feeling, and certainly in this period, is terrible. Beyond the great economic damage, there is also the loss of our security at home, in a neighborhood of families."

Like Tomer, Noa also located her car by wandering around on social media: "After two days, videos that the thieves upload on Tiktok started to appear - I immediately recognized my car. They upload videos of themselves with the car driving around in the field, proudly, it's unbelievable."

Noa adds: "It feels as if in a moment they will enter us with a fleet of improved Jimnys, and arrive at us like a 7.10, and this time from within the country. The feeling that the police cannot do anything is terrible. If such prominent vehicles are moved to the territories with such ease, just as well They could also transport me in the luggage. Amalach and whatever they can get."

The Jimny of Yael's father, a resident of Tel Aviv, was also stolen from a parking lot under the house last week. "In the evening, in the center of Tel Aviv.

It was quite surprising that it was stolen from there," says Yael, "They broke the window on the passenger's side.

Dad didn't have much to do.

He was told by the police that this happens every day.

It's an unpleasant feeling in the body, a feeling of helplessness.

It's just appalling that the police do nothing.

Dad would take jeep trips every weekend, week, after an intense week.

It sucks.

Because he won't be able to buy another car now.

He worked hard for it."

Yael still hasn't located the vehicle, but she continues to search the net. "I'm still looking for documentation of the vehicle.

It's scary that they made it to the house.

They took our vehicles and I don't know where it will go.

There are those who think they want to do another October 7th, because it is a mobile and off-road vehicle, and right now I see that they are doing jeep trips at our expense.

They just don't care, and also on the way to put a finger in our eye.

The state didn't care about us either.

The police must start doing something.

You no longer feel safe."

The Israel Police said: "The Israel Police is aware of the increase in the volume of Suzuki Jimny vehicle thefts and at the same time has prepared for operational work in this context."
