Suddenly shots are fired in a jewelry store in the pedestrian zone in Hanover, and a man is critically injured.

Only one of the two perpetrators comes to court - now the verdict has been passed.

Hanover - After a robbery at a jewelry store in downtown Hanover, one of the two perpetrators was sentenced to seven years in juvenile prison.

At the latest after his accomplice's first shot, the 19-year-old accepted that someone could be killed - and it "didn't matter" to him, said the presiding judge on Monday about the verdict of the Hanover Regional Court.

According to a court spokesman, the chamber did not believe that the convicted man had not known about the sharp weapon of his accomplice of the same age.

The public prosecutor's office had accused the 19-year-old of attempted murder, aggravated robbery and grievous bodily harm.

Out of greed and treachery, the two young men are said to have tried to steal jewelry from the jewelry store.

The 19-year-old's alleged accomplice is said to have fled abroad - it was this accomplice who shot a 39-year-old several times during the attack on July 11, 2023, initially missing him and ultimately critically injuring him.

According to the court, the defendant smashed the store's display cases with a hammer and looted them.

There were several customers in the store at the time of the crime.

After the attack, the perpetrators escaped with their loot, various gold chains, on women's bicycles.

Almost two months later, the police caught the 19-year-old.

The young man has now been convicted of attempted murder in conjunction with, among other things, dangerous bodily harm and particularly aggravated robbery, as the spokesman said.

In his favor, the chamber assumed that there was a threat from someone behind the scenes.

He himself said in the trial that he was under pressure to take part in the attack.

At the start of the trial, the 19-year-old confessed: “I would like to sincerely apologize to all the people to whom I have caused harm and suffering,” he had his defense lawyer read out in a statement.

He takes responsibility and “shouldn’t have done this.”
