The consumer goods company Unilever wants to cut jobs at a German location, which could benefit a factory in Baden-Württemberg.
Heilbronn -
Relocations abroad
are currently a much-discussed topic in the economy.
A mechanical engineer from Baden-Württemberg is relocating jobs from Reutlingen to Latvia and the household appliance manufacturer
Miele
from Gütersloh has also announced a relocation to Poland in addition to job cuts.
However, under special circumstances, some locations can also benefit from such a relocation within a group.
This could be the case
if there are planned job cuts in the
Unilever Group .
The English company Unilever is one of the world's largest manufacturers of consumer goods and is responsible for many well-known brands such as
Knorr
, Axe, Langnese, shower das and others.
Unilever operates two locations in Baden-Württemberg;
Dove soap bars are produced
in
Mannheim
and Knorr brand products in
Heilbronn .
This plant could benefit from job cuts that the group is planning at a location in Saxony, according to media reports.
Unilever wants to cut jobs in Saxony – will the Knorr headquarters in Heilbronn benefit?
As
SWR
reports, Unilever plans to cut 80 jobs at its factory in Auerbach - which produces ready-made soups and ready-made meals under the Knorr brand - by the end of the year.
The reason given is the lack of demand for the products.
It is therefore being examined whether production at the Heilbronn site can be increased, but there was no decision on this at the end of January.
It is therefore not known whether technologies, production volumes or personnel could be relocated from Auerbach to Heilbronn.

As the company told
SWR
, the Knorr factory in Heilbronn has free capacity.
The traditional Knorr brand, which has been part of the Unilever Group since 2000, also has its origins in the large city in Baden-Württemberg, where Carl Heinrich Theodor Knorr founded the company in 1838.
In 2020, however, the future of the main plant in Heilbronn was up in the air before employee representatives agreed on a key points paper with the Unilever Group.
Major corporation Unilever is investing again in the Heilbronn factory
The originally Dutch-English group, which has been based exclusively in Great Britain since 2020, is now investing again in the Knorr main plant in Heilbronn, which is to be extensively modernized.
According to SWR
, the company had already withdrawn capacity from a plant in
Strasbourg
about a year and a half ago
because this plant was closed.
The Knorr factory in Auerbach is apparently not scheduled to be closed, but Heilbronn could benefit again from reducing capacity at another Unilever location.
The Schwarz Group (Lidl and Kaufland), Baden-Württemberg's largest family business in terms of number of employees, is also based in the Heilbronn district.
