Next year, the Protestant kindergarten will temporarily move to the old youth center (Juze) on Spöttinger Straße.

This will be available as soon as the new Juze on Lechstrasse opens in early 2025.

Landsberg - While the Protestant daycare center on Von-Kühlmann-Straße is being built, the two existing groups - and possibly a third - can be cared for in the Juze rooms, which will be redesigned to be child-friendly by then.

This decision was recently made in a closed meeting of the city council.

The agreement helps both sides – the city and the church.

Until then, they had not yet found alternative accommodation to which the kindergarten could be relocated.

The old building is scheduled to be demolished in February 2025.

A new building for three crèche and two kindergarten groups will then be built on the site next to the Christ Church.

A total of 86 childcare places will be created.

Completion is scheduled for autumn 2026.

There were considerations about using the Protestant community center during the construction period, reported Pastor Siegfried Martin at a press event with city architect Annegret Michler and representatives of the kindergarten team.

But this seemingly simple solution would have required expensive fire protection modifications.

In addition, the outdoor play area in the courtyard would have been “very limited”.

The old Juze, on the other hand, can be converted into an interim daycare center “relatively quickly and inexpensively,” says city architect Annegret Michler.

The building should therefore be painted and prepared for children.

This includes installing appropriate toilets and child-safe door opening options.

In the outdoor area, the paper stream should be fenced off and the existing pond should be filled in or built over with a terrace.

All rooms that the supervisory authority approves for childcare can be used, “including the great large hall,” says Michler.

There may even be an opportunity to gradually build a crèche group in addition to the two kindergarten groups.

From the perspective of the city and the Am Papierbach Development Company (APE), tests and planning for possible permanent use as a daycare center can be carried out during the interim use.

Will you also use it as a daycare center in the future?

The continued use of the Juze as a daycare center for the Papierbach district has been discussed for several months as an alternative to demolition and new construction and, according to Michler, would be entirely in the spirit of sustainability.

In this case, the building would have to be renovated - and converted to accommodate a larger number of kindergarten and crèche groups.

The city has invited a speaker on the topic of conversion, renovation and reuse of buildings.

The architect Jörg Heiler will speak at Juze on Tuesday, February 27th and will particularly present a comparable project - converting an existing building into a daycare center.

But the lecture would be interesting for anyone who wants to reuse and repurpose existing buildings, says Michler.
