Anyone who goes on a car tour of Mallorca cannot miss the Cap de Formentor.
However, access restrictions for private vehicles will also apply this summer.

A road that winds up the hill to the 22 meter high structure.
This picturesque sight awaits travelers who want to visit the Cap de Formentor, in the northeast of Mallorca.
The northernmost point of the Balearic Island is one of the most popular attractions for tourists on a road trip.
But the mass rush has meant that summer access has been restricted for several years.
In 2024, tourists who arrive by (rental) car will no longer be allowed to drive up the road to the lighthouse.
Up to 4,000 cars a day: There have been restrictions at Cap de Formentor since 2018
From June 1st to September 30th, the Carreterra de Formentor (Ma-2210) between Port de Pollença and the lighthouse is closed to private traffic every day from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
The access restrictions were almost extended until the end of October - but the mayor of Pollença, Martí March, failed with his application to the Spanish Transport Authority in Mallorca (DGT), as the online portal
Mallorca Magazine
reported.
The same rules apply this summer as last year.

Despite the restrictions, the Ma-2210 road may still be accessible to private cars.
However, only up to Playa de Formentor and if there are still free spaces in the two parking areas there - parking on the side of the road is not permitted.
The parking ticket must then be sent to the DGT traffic authority within three days of the visit in an informal email with the subject “Formentor Playa”, as the
ADAC
informs.
If there are no more parking spaces at Playa de Formentor, the automatic barrier, which has been located at the roundabout in Port de Pollença since 2023, remains closed.
A second automatic barrier prevents further travel from the beach to Cap de Formentor.

High fines for ignoring access restrictions
Anyone who ignores the restrictions will face a fine of 200 euros.
The so-called “kiosk trick” also no longer works, as a spokeswoman for the island council told the online portal
Mallorca Zeitung
.
Visitors could avoid a fine by using a ticket to prove that they had purchased snacks or drinks on the route.

How tourists get to Cap de Formentor without a car
A visit to the Cap de Formentor is still possible for tourists: the shuttle bus line 334 starts in the port of Port de Pollença, where there is also free parking, and
leads directly to the lighthouse.
According to the
ADAC,
20 return trips per day were offered in summer 2023.
There are also intercity buses (TIB) that stop at Mirador Es Colomer, at Playa de Formentor, at the “Cala Figuera-Ćala Murta” stop and finally at the lighthouse.
If you don't want to have four wheels, you can also cover the route by bike.
