Two years before the municipal elections, tension is already at its peak in Saint-Denis.
While the last council still took place in an electric atmosphere, the opposition decided to alert the prefecture.
In a press release, these elected officials denounce the “contempt” of Mayor Mathieu Hanotin (PS) who, “since the start of his mandate,
systematically ignored the basic rules of respect for the right of expression of elected opposition representatives, they write.
Our interventions were constantly interrupted, prevented, their speaking time reduced in an unjustified manner…”
Last example, February 8: Sophie Rigard (without label) took advantage of the participatory budget vote to dismantle the municipality's record in terms of local democracy.
The opponent was interrupted as she expressed surprise at the lack of political response to the fatal attacks on two young people that occurred in the city in January.
“This is the first council after what happened and you are not presenting anything.
Words, always words,” she said, ironically about the mayor’s “ambitions
”
for young people.
