If you're tired, you shouldn't get behind the wheel.
This experience was very painful for a 28-year-old from the neighboring district of Weilheim-Schongau: she fell asleep at the wheel.
As a result, the driver of the vehicle left the road and crashed into a traffic sign and a wooden barn.
She herself remained unharmed.
Starnberg - The traffic accident occurred from Saturday to Sunday shortly after midnight on the main road in Diemendorf.
The 28-year-old was driving in the 30 km/h zone when she nodded away briefly and drove off the road to the right in her small car.
The Audi collided head-on with a “pedestrian” danger sign immediately adjacent to the road and the corner of a barn building behind it.
The facade slats and some of the supporting beams of the agricultural barn were damaged.
The car was totally damaged and had to be towed away.
The total damage is estimated at around 10,000 euros.
The driver of the vehicle must answer in criminal proceedings for endangering road traffic.
The German Road Safety Council has the slogan “Sleep where you want.
Just don’t drive” general information and tips to avoid such a traffic accident if possible:
Signs of fatigue
These signals mean you need to take an urgent break:
• Frequent yawning
• Burning eyes
• Increased blinking
• Heavy eyelids
• Narrowed field of vision (tunnel vision)
• Difficulty staying in lane
• Hardly remembering the last few kilometers
• Driving close to the vehicle in front
At the first sign of tiredness, park in a suitable location and either take a short nap or exercise.
Short sleep
Put the backrest back, close your eyes, breathe regularly and find peace inside.
A maximum of 30 minutes is enough to continue your journey feeling refreshed.
Deep sleep occurs after 45 minutes and it becomes more difficult to wake up.
If you want, you can drink a coffee before going to sleep.
The caffeine only takes effect after around 30 minutes, so it doesn't prevent you from falling asleep, but it does help you wake up.

Movement
Fill up on oxygen and activate your circulation with exercise.
For example, stretching your core or doing steps on the parking lot curb.
Just a few minutes of exercise in the fresh air is enough to be more awake again for a short time.
Wake-up myths
These supposed tricks don't help fight fatigue:
- Pinching yourself
- Opening the window
