“three individuals of Romanian nationality, already convicted on several occasions in France and neighboring countries for similar acts”

were arrested in Nantes, communicated Frédérique Porterie, public prosecutor of Bordeaux.

Given the importance of the events, which began in September 2023, the investigations were first entrusted to the research section of the Pau gendarmerie, then continued under the direction of the Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction (JIRS) of Bordeaux. .

After long months of investigations, an operation mobilizing around thirty gendarmes from Loire-Atlantique and Pyrénées-Atlantiques was launched, once the suspects were identified.

During the subsequent searches, 11,000 euros in cash were discovered.

Theft of valuables and cash register

The three individuals are suspected of more than sixty thefts, including 42 from pharmacies.

The other victims are garages and telephone shops, located near rural areas.

The acts were committed by a very mobile team whose modus operandi was as follows:

“During night raids, using stolen vehicles which were subsequently set on fire

,” explains the prosecution of the judicial court of Bordeaux,

the perpetrators stole cash and valuables found in the safes or cash registers of the targeted establishments.”

After their custody, the three suspects were presented to an investigating judge

“to be indicted on charges of theft by an organized gang, destruction of vehicles by fire by an organized gang and

criminal association with a view to committing theft in an organized gang, acts committed in a state of legal recidivism”

.

They were placed in pre-trial detention and face 20 years in prison as well as a permanent ban from French territory.
