According to Kochler Mayor Jens Müller, a disaster should have been declared during the hail storm in August.
He said that now at the annual meeting of the fire department.
Kochel am See – “Obviously there were problems with the process and communication,” said Jens Müller at the annual meeting of the Kochler fire department on Friday evening in the “Schmied von Kochel”.

The Garmisch-Partenkirchen district declared a disaster in Bad Bayersoien, “and that made the process and organization a lot easier.”
In his opinion, one should take an example from the then Hamburg Police Senator Helmut Schmidt and his reaction to the storm surge in February 1962: “He called in the Bundeswehr at the time, even though it was illegal, because he recognized the people's need.
And it was clear to him that this was the only way to get the situation under control.”

Kochler fire department had 134 missions in 2023
Müller also calculated that the Kochel fire department provided voluntary services worth at least 200,000 euros last year: “Every resident of Kochel would have had to pay 50 euros if this service had been billed.”

Commander Hubert Resenberger reported that the fire brigade had 134 missions, 3,350 operational hours and 3,140 training hours last year - not including help during hail storms.
300 hours were spent on turntable ladder training alone.
“We picked them up on November 29th and then we made a plan on how we could acquire the necessary knowledge as quickly as possible.” This worked well.

The fire department also needs to acquire new knowledge when dealing with electric cars.
In 2023, a Tesla and a Peugeot, among others, were involved in accidents on Kesselberg: “The question is always: Where do you disconnect the battery and the other systems?” said Resenberger.
“It’s different for every type of vehicle.” For some cars, the corresponding location is in the engine compartment, for others it’s in the center console or where the gasoline engine has its tank.
“You then have to look on the ADAC homepage to see where the danger spots are and where you have to disconnect the batteries.
Next time we know there’s a wire in the hood of a Tesla with a scissors symbol on it.”
Impressive exercise at the moated castle
The Kochlers had their most unusual exercise at the moated castle of the Walchensee power plant.
The fire department drove up the forest road with a turntable ladder and a small fire engine, “and then we worked with Uniper to see what could be,” said Resenberger.
“When you stand in front of the moated castle with the turntable ladder, you first notice the dimensions - that's impressive.” Operator Uniper has to inspect the turbines once a year: “To do this, someone climbs in and cleans the weld seams with a compressed air nail and paints them,” reported the commander.
