Impressive plumes of black smoke appeared in the sky over Paris this Monday morning.
A major fire broke out in a building on rue de Lyon, in the 12th arrondissement.
Firefighters went to the scene of the fire around 10:20 a.m.
Located just a few hundred meters from Place de la Bastille, the fire broke out in a private building.
In total, 30 engines and 120 firefighters were deployed to contain the flames which spread to several apartments on the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors.
The building's interior courtyard and stairwell were also affected.
At 11:45 a.m., the fire was not yet completely under control.
“For the moment, we are still in the attack phase and, given the scale of the disaster, the firefighters will still be on site for a good while,” confirmed the firefighters.
Traffic cut off
The building has for its part been completely evacuated according to the town hall of the 12th arrondissement.
“The provisional report shows four people injured, in relative emergencies, but it could change,” specifies the Paris firefighters.
Street traffic was cut off and firefighters invited Parisians to avoid the area and not unnecessarily congest the emergency lines.
“Residents, be careful,” we can read on their X account.
Internet users, witnessing the scene from their homes, shared impressive images of the scene on social networks where we can clearly see the flames licking the roof of the building.
